India was re-elected to the Council of Administration (CA) and Postal Operations Council (POC) of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) at the 28th UPU Congress in Dubai (2025).
The UPU, a UN specialised agency founded in 1874 and headquartered in Berne, Switzerland, is the second-oldest international organisation (after the International Telecommunication Union, 1865).
It has 192 member countries and promotes global cooperation in postal services, including mail, parcels, and postal finance.
The UPU has four main bodies:
Congress – supreme authority meeting every four years,
Council of Administration (CA) – supervises work between Congresses,
Postal Operations Council (POC) – 48-member technical body,
International Bureau – secretariat providing technical and logistical supportNon-UN members may join if two-thirds of UPU members approve.
