QUAD anniversary

Published on 26 Aug 2025

  • The Quad Foreign Ministers issued a joint statement that reaffirmed their commitment to a free, open, and peaceful Indo-Pacific on the 20th anniversary of Quad cooperation.

  • The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) is an informal strategic forum of the USA, India, Australia, and Japan, originating from the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami response.

  • First formalized in 2007 by Japan’s Shinzo Abe, it became dormant but was revived in 2017 due to concerns over China’s influence.

  • Often called the “Asian NATO” (without a mutual defense pact), the Quad has engaged in "Quad-plus" meetings with South Korea, New Zealand, and Vietnam, signaling possible future partnerships

7th QUAD Leaders Summit 2025 is to be hosted by India for the first time.
