Published on 19 Mar 2025

  •  The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC), established in 1988 under the Consumer Protection Act of 1986, resolves consumer disputes in a cost-effective, expeditious, and impartial manner.
  • Recently, it initiated a pilot project to conduct hearings through a hybrid mode (physical/ video conferencing).
  • NCDRC adjudicates cases involving complaint values exceeding two crores and hears appeals from lower consumer dispute redressal forums - State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissions (SCDRCs) and the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forums (DCDRCs).
  • The commission is led by a President, typically a retired or sitting Supreme Court judge
