• National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) launched a 5 year ITDP in the Kulathupuzha grama panchayat, its first initiative, in Kollam, Kerala.

• ITDP is a flagship programme based on the ‘wadi’ model of tribal development.

• Projects under this programme are funded through Tribal Development Fund, a dedicated fund of NABARD..

• ITDP encompasses various components including water resource development, leadership training, sanitation and hygiene initiatives, marketing and branding training, and skill development workshops.

Wadi Model - The word “Wadi” means “small orchard” and refers to plots of one to two acres that are used for family-centric agriculture. The model is based on the tribals’ connection to trees and forests, and addresses production, processing, and marketing of wadi produce, as well as other livelihood needs.
