Sanskrit is an ancient and classical language of India in which ever first book of the world Rigveda was compiled. It can be said that Sanskrit is the mother of Indian languages which enables us to appreciate our diverse and rich culture.
Natyashastra: It provides comprehensive guidelines for various aspects of dramatic arts, including stagecraft, acting, makeup, costumes, and emotions.
Example: Natyashastra influenced classical dance forms such as Bharatanatyam, Kathakali, and Odissi and also music.
Kavya Literature: These epic poems served as sources of inspiration for painters, sculptors, and performers, who have depicted the narratives and characters of these literary works through visual art forms.
Example: Raghu Vamsha and Kumarasambhava by Kalidasa influenced various art forms.
Shilpa Shastras: It encompasses principles of sculpture, temple architecture, iconography, and town planning.
Example: Vishwakarma’s Vastushastra played a crucial role in shaping the artistic traditions of India.
Ramayana and Mahabharata: These epics have been a source of inspiration for artists, who have depicted the characters, events, and moral teachings of these epics through visual arts, dance dramas, and folk performances.
Example: Miniature paintings from the Mughal and Rajput courts often depict scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata.
Puranas: They provide a rich source of inspiration for artists, influencing various art forms such as temple architecture, sculpture, painting, and folk performances.
Example: Pattachitra from Odisha or Mysore-style paintings from Karnataka, often depict episodes from the Puranas.
Grammar and Linguistics: Sanskrit's intricate grammar profoundly influenced linguistic thought and global grammatical frameworks.
Example: Panini's Ashtadhyayi introduced a highly systematic and rule-based approach to language analysis.
