Government Initiative to Protect and Revive Indian Art and culture

The Indian government has undertaken various initiatives to protect, preserve, and revive Indian art and culture, recognizing their significance in shaping the country's identity and fostering cultural heritage. 

These initiatives aim to safeguard traditional art forms, promote cultural exchanges, and provide support to artists and artisans. 

• Ministry of Culture (MoC): The Ministry of Culture plays a crucial role in formulating and implementing policies and programs related to art and culture. It supports various cultural institutions, museums, and art galleries across the country. 

• Sangeet Natak Akademi (SNA): Sangeet Natak Akademi is the National Academy of Music, Dance, and Drama. It works to promote and preserve traditional performing arts and provides financial assistance to artists and cultural organizations.

• Archaeological Survey of India (ASI): ASI is responsible for the conservation and preservation of ancient monuments and archaeological sites, safeguarding India's historical and architectural heritage. 

• National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA): NGMA, under the Ministry of Culture, showcases contemporary and modern art, promoting the work of Indian artists and preserving modern art movements in the country.

• National School of Drama (NSD): NSD is a premier institution that nurtures and trains actors, directors, and playwrights, promoting the growth of Indian theater. 

• Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR): ICCR fosters cultural exchange between India and other countries, organizing cultural events, festivals, and exhibitions to showcase Indian art and culture globally.

• Dance and Music Festivals: The government sponsors and organizes various dance and music festivals, such as the Khajuraho Dance Festival, Konark Dance Festival, and Hampi Utsav, to celebrate and promote traditional arts.

• National Mission for Manuscripts (NMM): NMM aims to locate, preserve, and conserve ancient manuscripts to preserve India's intellectual and literary heritage.

• Example: NMM has digitized rare and endangered manuscript (Various edicts of Ashoka)

• Handicrafts and Handlooms: Various government initiatives support artisans and weavers involved in handicrafts and handloom industries. 

• Example: The Ministry of Textiles provides financial aid, training, and marketing assistance to promote handicrafts and handloom products.

• Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY): HRIDAY focuses on the holistic development of heritage cities, preserving their cultural fabric, and promoting heritage-based economic activities.
