NDRF serves as the primary financial instrument for the Government of India's disaster response apparatus.
Established under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the NDRF complements the State Disaster Response Funds (SDRFs) maintained by individual states.
The NDRF is primarily funded by a National Calamity Contingent Duty (NCCD) levied on specific goods such as tobacco and tobacco products like pan masala.
The central government may also allocate additional budgetary support when necessary.
Recent amendments allowed Individuals and institutions to contribute to the NDRF.
Contributions to the NDRF can be made by individuals and institutions through various methods, including physical instruments(cheques), electronic transfers (RTGS, NEFT, UPI), and the Bharatkosh portal.
