SAGAR
Launched in March 2015 by the Prime Minister, the SAGAR doctrine outlines India’s strategic vision for the Indian Ocean.
It aims to position India as a leader committed to maritime security and regional growth, distinguishing its approach from other major powers.
Objectives:
Security and Growth: Emphasises a secure and stable maritime environment that fosters regional growth and development.
Consultative, democratic and Equitable: Promotes a collaborative and inclusive approach
Mission Sagar:
Mission Sagar, launched on 10 May 2020, aimed to provide COVID-19 assistance and humanitarian aid to Indian Ocean countries.
It involved deploying INS Kesari to the Maldives, Mauritius, Madagascar, Comoros, and Seychelles, delivering over 3,000 MT of food aid, 300 MT of Liquid Medical Oxygen, 900 oxygen concentrators, and essential medicines.
The mission strengthened maritime cooperation and humanitarian support, aligning with India’s SAGAR vision.
