NIA is a statutory body under National Investigation Agency (NIA) Act in 2008.
It is tasked with investigating and prosecuting offenses related to threats against India's sovereignty, security, and integrity, including crimes against atomic and nuclear facilities, and smuggling of high-quality counterfeit Indian currency.
It also enforces international treaties, agreements, conventions, and resolutions of the United Nations and other international organizations. Additionally, its objective includes combating terrorism within India.
