It is situated on the southern banks of the Brahmaputra River, Assam.
It is a part of the Eastern Himalayan Biodiversity Hotspots.
It has also been declared as an Important Bird Area by Birdlife International for the conservation of avifaunal species.
The park hosts two-thirds of the world's Greater One-horned rhinoceroses (IUCN Vulnerable species).
Kaziranga National Park has a tropical monsoon climate with distinct wet and dry seasons.
The park is home to “Big Five” wildlife includes tiger, rhino, elephant, wild buffalo and swamp deer.
Four main types of vegetation exist in this park. These are alluvial inundated grasslands, alluvial savanna woodlands, tropical moist mixed deciduous forests, and tropical semi-evergreen forests.
