PolityJoint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) ad-hoc committee Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha
A Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) is an ad-hoc committee set up by the Indian Parliament to investigate specific issues, such as financial irregularities or bills.
It is formed through a motion passed in one House and supported by the other.
Members are from both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, with more from the Lok Sabha.
The JPC can collect evidence, summon individuals, and demand documents.
The committee examines the issue, makes recommendations, and submits a report to Parliament.
Conventionally, JPC is chaired a member of Lok Sabha as nominated by the Speaker.
JPC recommendations are persuasive but not binding on the government.
The committee is disbanded after submitting its report.
