Hunga Tonga–Hunga Haʻapai is a submarine volcano in the Western South Pacific Ocean, west of the main inhabited islands in the Kingdom of Tonga.
It is an undersea Volcano consisting of two small uninhabited islands, Hunga-Ha’apai and Hunga-Tonga.
It is located about 30 km south of the submarine volcano of Fonuafoʻou and 65 km north of Tongatapu.
This volcano is part of the highly active Tonga–Kermadec Islands volcanic arc, which is a subduction zone stretching north-northeast from New Zealand's North Island towards Tonga.
The island arc is formed at the convergent boundary where the Pacific Plate subducts under the Indo-Australian Plate.
