Galathea Bay International Container Transhipment Terminal (Galathea Bay ICTT): This is the heart of the project, aiming to handle a massive container cargo volume.
Great Nicobar International Airport (GNIA): A greenfield airport is planned to handle passenger traffic and support logistics.
Township Development: The project includes building townships to accommodate a significantly increased population.
Power Plant: A gas and solar-based power plant is proposed to meet the energy needs of the development.
The proposed port is equidistant from Colombo to the southwest and Port Klang (Malaysia) and Singapore to the southeast, and positioned close to the EastWest international shipping corridor, through which a very large part of the world’s shipping trade passes.
The project has been facing criticism and legal challenges and the critics argue that it will cause large scale deforestation, habitat destruction and endanger tribal communities.
