Bhutan is planning to build a massive international city in an area of 1000 sq.km on its border with Assam.
Rather Than a special economic zone, the Gelephu project in Sarpang district to Bhutan’s south would be a Special Administrative Region that would be run under different laws to facilitate more international investment.
India and Bhutan have agreed to discuss new routes of regional connectivity, which includes the development of a cross-border rail link between Gelephu in Bhutan and Kokrajhar in Assam, spanning 58 km.
