The Inter-operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS)
It is an initiative of the e-Committee of the Supreme Court.
Enables seamless transfer of data and information among different pillars of the criminal justice system, like courts, police, jails and forensic science laboratories, from one platform.
The metadata of FIR and charge sheet can be accessed by all the High Courts and subordinate courts.
[The e-Committee under the Supreme court enables the Indian judiciary to prepare itself for the digital age, to adapt and apply technologies and communication tools in justice delivery]
It is a Mission Mode Project (MMP) under the National e-Governance Plan of Govt. of India.
National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) is the central nodal agency that would manage CCTNS.
It will automate Police functions at Police stations and higher levels.
It incorporates public services like registration of online complaints, ascertaining the status of cases registered at the police station, verification of persons etc.
The records of crimes and criminals available at one police station will be accessible to any other police office.
["mission mode" implies that projects have clearly defined objectives, scopes, and implementation timelines and milestones, as well as measurable outcomes and service levels.]
