Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)

• It is a regional organization established to promote political and social stability among Asia-Pacific’s post-colonial states. 

• It was set up on August 8, 1967, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration, also known as the Bangkok Declaration. 

• The founding members of ASEAN were Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.

• Its motto is “One Vision, One Identity, One Community.”

• ASEAN Day is observed on August 8.

• The ASEAN Secretariat is located in Jakarta, Indonesia.

• ASEAN comprises ten member countries

• They are :
  Indonesia,Malaysia,Philippines,Singapore,Thailand,Brunei,Vietnam,Laos,Myanmar and Cambodia.

India became ASEAN Dialogue Partner in 1996.
