It has been caused by the overflowing Brahmaputra River.
The Brahmaputra is considered the most flood-prone river in the world due to high sediment and unpredictable flooding patterns.
Also, the high sediments in the river caused the flow of the river in a braided pattern.
The high flow of Kopili, Barak and Kushiyara rivers during the monsoon is also a reason for the flooding in the state.
The Protected Areas in Assam - Dibru Saikhowa Biosphere Reserve, Kaziranga National Park, Orang National Park, Bura Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary and Pani Dihing Wildlife Sanctuary, are subjected to bank erosion and accretion due to unstable bankline and dynamic nature of the Brahmaputra river.
