Artificial Intelligence (AI)

• AI refers to computer systems or robots capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence and judgement. 

• The term "Artificial Intelligence" was formally introduced by American computer scientist John McCarthy at the 1956 Dartmouth Conference. 

• While no AI replicates the full range of human abilities, some AI technologies can match or exceed humans in specific tasks. 

• Unlike hardware-driven robotic automation, AI focuses on reliably performing high-volume computerised tasks rather than automating manual tasks. 

• It encompasses technologies such as machine learning, natural language processing, inference algorithms, and neural networks. 

• In India, NITI Aayog has published key documents outlining AI initiatives, including the National Strategy for AI and the Responsible AI for All report.
