Ethics and human values are related concepts, but they have distinct characteristics and scopes.

Aspects	Ethics	Human Values
Definition	A system of principles, rules, and guidelines that dictate right and wrong conduct.	The set of beliefs, attitudes, and ideals that individuals and societies consider important and worth striving for.
Scope	A broader and more systematic study of moral principles and theories.	More specific and personal – may differ from one person to another.
Foundation	Grounded in philosophical reasoning and critical thinking, which provide rational justifications for ethical principles.	May not always be explicitly rationalized – can be influenced by cultural, religious & societal norms, education, personal experiences, and emotional responses.
Universality	Aim to be universal and apply to all people and cultures. Example: The principle of not causing harm.	Can be both universal and relative. Example: Compassion is considered universal, whereas attitudes towards family structures are more culturally specific.
Application	Provides a systematic approach to ethical decision-making in various domains, such as medical ethics and business ethics.	Applied in daily life to ensure that personal behaviour aligns with the social expectations of a specific community or society.
Role in Society	Helps in establishing the moral framework that govern societies and institutions.	Contribute to the formation of social norms, group cohesion, and shared cultural identity.
