Launched in 1986, the TMOPM aims to increase production of oilseeds, pulses, and maize to reduce India's dependence on imports and meet the growing demand for essential food commodities.
Key Strategies:
High-Yielding Varieties: Promotion of improved varieties like PS-16, Pusa 1203, and Vijay for pulses; Neerja, Ganga 101, and Pusa 1161 for oilseeds; and Jwala, Deccan Amber, and Vivek for maize.
Improved Cultivation Practices: Encouraging intercropping, crop rotation, zero tillage, and precision agriculture.
Seed and Fertilizer Subsidies: Providing financial support for quality inputs.
Market Linkage: Facilitating access to markets through FPOs and e-commerce.
Major Components:
Oilseeds Production Programme (OPP): Focuses on increasing the production of various oilseeds like mustard, groundnut, soybean, and sunflower.
National Pulses Development Project (NPDP): Aims to enhance the production of pulses such as lentil, gram, and pigeon pea.
Accelerated Maize Development Programme (AMDP): Promotes maize cultivation for both food and feed purposes.
Post-Harvest Technology (PHT): Implements measures to minimize losses during storage, processing, and transportation.
Oil Palm Development Programme (OPDP): Encourages the cultivation of oil palm to increase domestic edible oil production.
National Oilseeds and Vegetable Oils Development Board (NOVOD): Provides technical and financial support to the oilseeds and vegetable oils sector.
