National Livestock Mission

Launched in 2014, the National Livestock Mission (NLM) aims to improve livestock productivity, income, and sustainability.

Key Strategies:

  • Genetic improvement: Promoting the use of high-quality breeding stock and artificial insemination to improve the genetic makeup of livestock.

  • Animal health: Enhancing animal health through vaccination, disease control programs, and improved veterinary services.

  • Infrastructure development: Building and upgrading infrastructure for livestock production, including feed mills, slaughterhouses, and cold storage facilities.

  • Value addition: Promoting value addition to livestock products through processing and marketing initiatives.

  • Skill development: Providing training and capacity building to livestock farmers and related professionals.

  • Livestock-based livelihoods: Supporting the development of livestock-based livelihoods, such as dairy farming, poultry rearing, and meat production.
