Government initiatives for the welfare of scheduled castes and tribal community

Schemes for Scheduled Castes 

  • PM Adarsh Gram Yojana: Integrated development of villages having SC concentration > 50%. Central assistance of 20 lakh per village in the form of gap-filling funds shall be provided to these villages.

  • SHREYAS: An umbrella scheme for the educational empowerment of SC and OBC. It includes the following programmes

    • Free Coaching Scheme for SC and OBC: Provide high quality coaching to economically disadvantaged SCs and OBCs for competitive exams to technical and professional institutions.

    • Top Class Education for SC: Promote quality education among SC students, covering studies beyond 12th class.

    • National Overseas Scheme for SC: Financial assistance to selected SC students for pursuing masters and Ph.D. courses abroad.

    • National Fellowship Scheme for SC: Support SC students pursuing M.Phil/ Ph.D. degrees in Science, Humanities and Social Science in Indian universities recognized by the UGC.

  • Ambedkar Social Innovation and Incubation Mission (ASIIM): To promote entrepreneurship among the SC youth with special preference to Divyangs.

  • SC Sub-Plan: An umbrella strategy to ensure flow of targeted financial and physical benefits from all the general sectors of development for the benefit of Scheduled Castes. 100% grant is provided to the state as a Special Central Assistance to the plan.

  • Scholarship programmes: Pre-matric and Post- matric scholarship, with 100% central assistance for the former and 60% of central funding for the latter.

Schemes for Scheduled Tribes

  • Ekalavya Model Residential School: To establish residential schools in every block with more than 50% ST population and at least 20000 tribal persons.

  • Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana: An umbrella scheme focusing on improving the quality of tribal life, quality of education, providing sustainable employment for tribal families, bridge infrastructure gaps and for the protection of tribal culture.

  • Adivasi Grants Management System (ADIGRAMS): For monitoring the physical and financial progress of the grants given by the Ministry to states and track the actual utilisation of funds.

  • Tribal Research Information, Education, Communication and Events (TRU-ECE) Scheme: Financial assistance is provided to reputed institutions to promote tribal culture, artefacts, customs and traditions of tribal communities.

  • MSP for MFP scheme: For better marketing of minor forest produce and aid tribals to secure better income for their produce.
