• The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announced amendments to the scheme, extending its implementation timeline by five years to 2028-29 and financial support to Advanced Biofuel Projects using lignocellulosic biomass.
•PM JI-VAN stands for Jaiv Indhan- Vatavaran Anukool fasal awashesh Nivaran and aims to provide financial assistance to 2G Bioethanol projects made from surplus biomass and agricultural waste.
• It is aimed at promoting the production and use of advanced biofuels, specifically ethanol.
• The scheme supports “bolt-on” plants and “brownfield” projects.
Bolt-on technologies are processes that can be added to existing ethanol plants to increase production, improve efficiency, or generate new products.
Lignocellulosic biomass (LCB) is a renewable resource made from plant dry matter, such as agricultural waste, forestry trash, and urban garbage.
