Constructive Approach

Solely focused on tearing down or causing harm without offering any constructive input.

Context and Timing

Considered within the appropriate context and provided in a manner that allows for open dialogue and learning.

Publicly criticizing someone without providing them an opportunity to respond or rectify the situation.

Privacy and Consent

Respects the privacy and consent of individuals – focus on actions and behaviour rather than delving into personal matters.

Criticizing someone’s personal life or private matters without their consent.

Proportionality and Fairness

Proportionate to the offense or issue at hand.

Excessive criticism or disproportionate punishment.

Examples

Ethical boundaries of criticism can be subjective and may vary depending on cultural, professional, and individual contexts. Engaging in open dialogue, listening to different perspectives, and considering the potential impact of criticism are essential to navigate the ethical dimensions of criticism effectively.
