Example: Listening attentively to one’s spouse when they’re going through a stressful situation at work, offering encouragement and reassurance.
Equality and fairness: Promoting a balanced partnership where both partners have equal say in decision-making and share responsibilities.

Dishonesty and deception: Lying or keeping significant information from the spouse, leading to broken trust.

Controlling and manipulative behaviour: Trying to control or manipulate the spouse’s actions or decisions for personal gain.
Example: Forbidding one’s spouse from seeing certain friends or pursuing certain hobbies without valid reasons or consent.
Lack of emotional support: Neglecting to be there for the spouse emotionally and not providing the necessary support during tough times.

Disrespect and verbal abuse: Speaking rudely, using demeaning language, or belittling the spouse.
Example: Insulting the spouse during an argument, intentionally hurting their feelings with hurtful words.
Building a healthy relationship with a spouse involves continuous effort, understanding, and empathy. Both partners need to prioritize mutual respect, open communication, and trust, while also avoiding harmful behaviours that can erode the foundation of the relationship.
